At the heart of this redevelopment was the construction of a new Operating Theatre Complex, replacing the outdated 700m² theatre with a cutting-edge facility designed to enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide top-quality care. Alongside this upgrade, critical infrastructure improvements were made to ensure the hospital met modern standards while remaining fully operational throughout the process.

The project was the latest chapter in an ongoing revitalisation effort for Collie Hospital, following a $7.8 million refurbishment completed in 2017. That earlier phase focused on upgrading administration areas, the main entry, and the emergency department. The Stage 2 redevelopment built on this, continuing the hospital’s upward trajectory, ensuring it stayed aligned with contemporary healthcare standards, and preserving its vital role in serving the Collie community and surrounding regions.

Perkins Builders, in collaboration with Hunt Architects, delivered on the ambitious vision for the project. Hunt Architects, renowned for their work on healthcare projects across the state—including at Albany Health Campus and Merredin Health Campus—designed the new Operating Theatre Complex to meet the highest functional and aesthetic standards. The completed redevelopment not only enhanced the quality of care but also created a welcoming, efficient space for patients and staff alike.

A crucial element of the hospital’s transformation was the integration of Capral Aluminium Window and Door Systems, which were fabricated and installed by LGA W.A. , a trusted local fabricator. The use of Capral’s high-performance systems played a key role in improving the hospital’s look and functionality, ensuring that it could meet the demands of a modern healthcare facility.

Capral’s 400 and 600 Series Narrowline Frames were selected for their sleek, modern profiles and superior performance. In a healthcare environment where natural light and visibility are crucial, these systems provided the ideal balance of strength and elegance. The slim profiles allowed for larger glass areas, bringing more light into the hospital’s spaces while maintaining structural integrity. This not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the hospital but also improved the wellbeing of patients and staff by creating bright, welcoming interiors.

At the hospital’s main entry points, Capral’s 225 Series Door Frames were installed, providing the durability necessary for high-traffic areas. These robust door frames ensured that the hospital’s entrances were secure and easy to access, essential in such a busy healthcare setting. Capral offers a comprehensive range of glazing adaptors, which were also used throughout the project, offering flexibility in accommodating various glass and glazing options. This helped to optimise both thermal and acoustic performance, ensuring a comfortable and energy-efficient environment for patients and staff alike.

In addition, Capral’s fixed louvres were installed to improve the hospital’s energy efficiency by enhancing ventilation and reducing solar heat gain. This feature played an important role in maintaining climate control, a vital consideration in the Collie region, and contributed to reducing the hospital’s energy consumption.

The expertise of LGA W.A. was instrumental in ensuring that Capral’s systems were installed to the highest standards. Working in close collaboration with Perkins Builders and Hunt Architects, LGA W.A. ensured that the window and door systems integrated seamlessly into the overall design of the hospital. Their craftsmanship was crucial to realising the architectural vision, contributing to both the building’s aesthetic appeal and its long-term functionality.
