Careel Head Road Residence: Elevated Coastal Living

Careel Head Road in Avalon showcased a coastal residence that combined expansive glazing and high-performance materials with seamless indoor-outdoor flow. This maximised natural light, ventilation and views of the Northern Beaches.

The Careel Head Road residence in Avalon demonstrated how commercial-grade aluminium window and door systems could elevate high-end residential design. Delivered by PCW Commercial Windows in collaboration with Laxale Group and Walsh Architects, the project achieved a refined outcome suited to its coastal setting.

Located in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the home prioritised large-format glazing to capture coastal outlooks and strengthen the connection between indoor and outdoor living. Glazing selections were developed alongside the builder, fabricator and energy consultant to meet BASIX requirements while maintaining the design intent.

Capral Aluminium systems were used throughout the residence, delivering commercial-grade performance in a residential application. The Capral AGS 400 Narrowline Series was used for fixed glazing, providing strength and clean sightlines.

The Capral AGS 900 High Performance Sliding Door was used for large openings, enabling smooth transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces in a coastal environment. The Capral AGS 225 Door Series provided durable access solutions, while the Capral AGS 50 Awning Series supported natural ventilation across key areas. The Capral AGS 950 Sliding Window added flexibility for everyday airflow and usability.

Durability was a key focus due to the exposed coastal location. All aluminium systems were specified with a finish designed to withstand UV exposure, salt air and harsh weather conditions. Breezway louvre galleries with E-Tech Low-E glass blades were integrated to support passive cooling and improve thermal performance.

The delivery of the project highlighted the capability of PCW Commercial Windows, who managed fabrication and installation with precision and ensured alignment with both design and performance requirements. Coordination across all project teams supported efficient installation of the large glazing elements.
