DownloadNicholson Road Station is a key part of Perth’s METRONET expansion, improving public transport connections for the growing communities of Canning Vale and surrounding suburbs. Designed to accommodate thousands of commuters every day, the station required a security solution that could protect critical infrastructure while preserving the open, modern feel of the space.
Central Screens was engaged to manufacture and install security screening throughout key areas of the station. The project required a system capable of withstanding vandalism, graffiti and the demands of a busy public transport environment, while maintaining clear sightlines and natural airflow.
Central Screens manufactured and installed 252 Amplimesh® SupaScreen® security screens throughout the station, including standard and custom angled assemblies across elevated walkways and concourse areas. Each screen was custom fabricated to suit the station’s unique requirements, achieving a precise fit and consistent finish across the installation.
Nigel Waine, Director at Central Screens, explains:
“From the design brief, it was clear they needed a solution that was tough enough to protect the station from vandalism and everyday wear, but they didn’t want it to become a visual barrier. When you walk through Nicholson Road Station, you’d never realise there are 252 Amplimesh® security screens installed because they’ve been integrated so seamlessly into the design.”
A key challenge of the project was the design and installation of the custom angled screen assemblies across elevated structures. Tight tolerances, complex frame configurations and the use of elevated work platforms required careful planning and precise execution to ensure each screen aligned with the station’s architectural design.
Amplimesh® SupaScreen® was selected for its proven performance in demanding environments. Manufactured from high tensile 316 marine-grade stainless steel mesh, it provides excellent corrosion resistance while allowing up to 41% airflow and a 156-degree viewing angle. Tested to relevant Australian Standards, the system delivers a durable, low-maintenance solution that supports security without compromising visibility or ventilation.
Nigel adds:
“Central Screens has been one of the longest-standing Amplimesh dealers because we’ve always had confidence in the product. Whether we’re installing screens in public infrastructure like train stations or protecting family homes, we know SupaScreen is built to perform.”
Beyond the product itself, Central Screens played a key role in delivering the project through their fabrication, coordination and installation expertise. Working closely with the project team, they were able to navigate the complexities of the station environment and deliver a tailored screening solution that met the site’s functional and design requirements.
The completed installation provides long-term protection for Nicholson Road Station while maintaining the open design and passenger experience envisioned by the project team. By combining precision manufacturing with expert installation, Central Screens delivered a large-scale security screening solution that complements one of Perth’s newest METRONET stations.
