The Howley Street project presented a unique challenge: breathing new life into a classic Californian Bungalow while preserving its charm. The homeowners envisioned a delicate balance between honouring the property’s heritage and introducing modern elements to enhance functionality and visual appeal, embracing the conveniences and aesthetics of contemporary living.

The Californian Bungalow, a beloved architectural style in Australia, is known for its character-filled features and cosy ambience. The renovation team was tasked with maintaining these quintessential elements while updating the home for 21st-century living. This meant carefully preserving original features such as the distinctive roofline, wide verandahs, and intricate woodwork that give the bungalow its unique character.

While preserving the front facade and key internal features was paramount, the rear of the property presented an opportunity for bold, contemporary design. The vision included a sleek, modern extension that would contrast with and complement the original structure. This new addition was designed to maximise natural light and ventilation, create a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, and incorporate energy-efficient design principles. The modern extension served as a canvas for innovative architectural elements, with Capral’s advanced systems playing a crucial role in realising this vision.

Capral’s innovative Artisan 994 Top Hung Sliding Door system is at the heart of the Howley Street renovation. This product served as the cornerstone of the project, enabling the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces that the homeowners desired. Its large opening and various infill sill track options allowed for a smooth flow from the inside to the outside, providing a stunning, flat, and clean finish. Combining with Caprals AquaGo Subsill system, allowing a seamless floor finish with integrated plumbing for concealed yet effective drainage.

The large panels of the Artisan 994 Top Hung system glide effortlessly, with the meeting stiles coming together with Capral Caprio Mortice Lock and Flush Pull stainless hardware, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

In addition to the Artisan 994 Top Hung Sliding Door system, other Capral systems played crucial roles in enhancing the overall design and success of the Howley Street renovation. In the same alignment as the 994 Top Hung Door, Capral’s Flushline 619 150mm Frame system was utilised to allow a very large single piece of glass, with the frame sitting flush with the floor levels inside the subframe.
