Capral Aluminium has been recognised for innovation in Australian window and door design, taking home the Most Innovative Window System award at the 2026 AGWA Industry Awards for its Panoramic Sliding Door.
The Australian Glass and Window Association (AGWA) Design and Industry Awards recognise excellence in design, functionality, innovation and creativity across Australia’s glass and window industry. The national winners were announced at the AGWA Industry Awards in Sydney on 18 October.
Building Systems Divisional Manager at Capral Aluminium, Barry Lunn, comments:

Released in August 2025, the Panoramic Sliding Door was developed with a clear objective: to deliver a sleek European aesthetic for high-end residential and commercial projects while maintaining the performance requirements of the Australian market.
The system incorporates a number of innovative, purpose-designed components, including a new integrated track roller engineered to provide smooth and controlled movement for panels weighing up to 320kg each.
The development focused on creating minimal visible framing and concealed structural elements, allowing for expansive openings and a clean, uninterrupted connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Capral’s Head of R&D, Matt Leishman, explains:
“I’m incredibly proud of what our technical team has achieved with the Panoramic Sliding Door. Developing a system capable of accommodating panels up to 320kg while maintaining smooth, reliable operation required a lot of detailed engineering and problem-solving.
“The integrated track roller was a key part of that development, along with features including the concealed structural elements, slimline recessed interlocks, full-perimeter glazing and recessed sill with concealed drainage. Bringing all of these elements together allowed us to achieve the minimal aesthetic of the system while maintaining the structural and water performance required for Australian conditions. To see the work of our team recognised with the Most Innovative Window System award is something we’re extremely proud of.”
The recognition comes at a time when recent reports of alleged compliance failures in imported aluminium windows and doors have renewed industry discussion around product testing, compliance and the importance of systems developed for Australian conditions. For Capral, the award highlights the value of combining local system design and engineering with rigorous testing and development to meet the requirements of the Australian market.
As an Australian aluminium extruder and manufacturer, Capral designs, develops and tests its proprietary window and door systems for the Australian market, with its technical and R&D teams working across product development, testing and system performance.
The 2026 AGWA Industry Awards also recognised Capral’s fabricators, with several customers receiving awards and finalist recognition across Western Australia and New South Wales.
In Western Australia, Maylands Residence by Jason Windows received the Residential Project Under $80,000 award, while Home Fire Studios by ASA Windows received the Commercial Project Over $750,000 award. LGA WA received the Small Showroom of the Year award, while Allan Harris, WA State Manager at Capral, was recognised with the Industry Person Award.
In New South Wales, Capral customers Newcastle Glass and Aluminium, Fin Windows, PCW Commercial Windows and Distinct Aluminium and Glass were finalists. PCW Commercial Windows received a Highly Commended recognition in the Commercial Window or Glass Project Over $750,000 category, while Distinct Aluminium and Glass received the national award in the same category.
For Capral, the recognition across multiple categories reinforces the role of its fabricator network in bringing its systems to life across Australian projects.

The award marks another milestone in Capral’s ongoing development of Australian window and door systems, with the Panoramic Sliding Door demonstrating the company’s focus on combining innovative design with the performance requirements of the Australian market.
