DEFS Collie Multipurpose Facility

Download

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Collie Multipurpose Facility was constructed using Capral Aluminium window and door systems to manage complex emergencies in Western Australia’s South-West region. LGA (WA) worked closely with builder Perkins and architect Oldfield Knott Architects to deliver a vital hub for managing large-scale emergencies, particularly in the face of the persistent bushfire threat.

This cutting-edge facility boasted a Level 3 Incident Control Centre, an Emergency Driver Training School, and Regional Fleet Management capabilities, all supported by state-of-the-art ICT and Radio Communications. Notably, it was the first facility in the state designed specifically for regional use, setting a new benchmark for emergency services infrastructure. Designed by Oldfield Knott Architects, the building combined a modern, durable aesthetic with a strong emphasis on sustainability, achieving a 4-star Green Star rating.

Capral Aluminium played a pivotal role in the facility’s design, providing a comprehensive range of window and door systems. The Capral AGS 400 Narrowline framing system was utilised in areas of the facility that required a balance of structural integrity and sleek aesthetics, such as the office spaces and common areas.

The Capral AGS 425 Narrowline Double Glazed and Capral AGS 419 Flushline Acoustic systems were strategically implemented in critical facility areas, such as the Incident Control Centre and observation rooms. These systems’ superior thermal and acoustic properties were crucial in maintaining a comfortable and focused indoor environment. The Capral AGS 225 Wide Stile Double Glazed Hinged Door and Capral AGS 900 Double Glazed Sliding Door systems were strategically implemented throughout the facility to address diverse access requirements. The versatility of these door systems contributed significantly to the facility’s operational efficiency and architectural cohesion.

The DFES Collie Multipurpose Facility also showcased a diverse range of Capral window systems, each contributing to the building’s functionality, efficiency, and aesthetic appeal. The Capral AGS 50 Top Hung Commercial Awning Windows provided controlled ventilation and ease of operation. In areas where a more traditional look was desired, the Capral AGS 481 Double Hung Window system added a touch of classic charm without compromising on performance. Complementing these, Capral’s Fixed Louvres played a crucial role in environmental control. Together, these systems maintained the high-performance standards required of a modern emergency services complex.

Security, a central concern in an emergency services facility, was addressed with the inclusion of Amplimesh SupaScreen Security Screens. These screens provided an additional layer of protection without compromising visibility or ventilation, ensuring that the facility remained secure.

The successful implementation of Capral’s window and door systems at the DFES facility was made possible by the expertise of LGA (WA) Pty Ltd—a trusted, family-owned glazing specialist servicing Western Australia’s South West for over 30 years. With deep experience in aluminium commercial glazing for both small and large-scale projects, LGA (WA) ensured each Capral system was fabricated and installed to the highest standards. Their proven capability in delivering complex, high-performance glazing solutions made them the ideal partner for this critical emergency services facility.

The DFES Collie Multipurpose Facility stands as a testament to what could be achieved when innovative design and cutting-edge technology come together. It served not only as critical infrastructure for emergency services but also as a practical model for future developments in this sector.
