Gosford Library: Precision Glazing for a Landmark Building

The Gosford Regional Library is a major civic project in the Gosford CBD, bringing together learning spaces, co-working areas, meeting rooms and cultural facilities in a single contemporary public hub.

The project showcases how advanced aluminium window and door systems can support complex architectural design while delivering strong thermal, acoustic and structural performance.

A high level of coordination between PCW Commercial Windows, Lahznimmo Architects and North Construction & Building was required to achieve the architectural intent. The glazing scope focused on expansive transparency, refined detailing and precise integration with the building structure. 

Across the façade, Capral Aluminium systems were used throughout to support high-performance glazing within a complex multi-level façade. The combination of AGS 629 Flushline Double Glazed and AGS 659 Flushline Wide Pocket Series supported large-scale glazing panels, enabling the architectural intent of openness and daylight access while maintaining structural performance and clean façade lines. 

A defining element is the multi-level curtain wall system, installed within confined structural conditions and requiring extensive craning operations to position large glass panels. The façade maximises natural daylight into reading and study areas while supporting acoustic comfort and thermal efficiency throughout the building. 

Within the façade system, motorised Breezway Power Louvres were integrated with automated controls, including remote operation and sensors for airflow management. Positioned at both high and low levels, they allow ventilation to be adjusted throughout the building, supporting natural air movement and improving occupant comfort without relying heavily on mechanical systems.  

To support the delivery of these complex façade elements, CAD coordination was used to resolve structural interfaces and transitions between floors, steelwork and cladding. Site measurements were translated into coordinated CAD documentation, ensuring accurate fabrication tolerances and precise alignment during installation, particularly across the multi-level curtain wall and irregular façade geometry. 

Throughout delivery, PCW Commercial Windows showcased its capability in delivering complex façade systems, working effectively within site constraints and changing construction schedules. 

As noted by Ross Farrelly, General Manager at PCW:
“It was a large curtain wall system, built using a traditional curtain wall approach and heavily engineered with custom angles and structural fixing back to the building. A significant amount of engineering coordination was required, including cross-checking designs and aligning transitions with floors, steel beams and structural interfaces. At times, glass was craned inside the building and panels had to be rotated, which added pressure to the program. Despite this, the final result came together well and the building is now a standout in Gosford.” 

The finished library now sits as a key building in Gosford, supporting the community as a place for learning, meeting and everyday use. The use of Capral Aluminium window, door and glazing systems ensures the building will continue to serve the community for years to come, with PCW Commercial Windows playing an important role in delivering the façade and glazing solutions that helped bring the project to life.
