Capral Aluminium’s certification against the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard has been renewed until 2029, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to responsible sourcing, transparent business practices and continuous improvement across its Australian operations.
Capral became an ASI member in June 2022 and achieved its initial full certification against both standards on 2 June 2023, becoming the first Australian Aluminium Extruder to do so. Following a surveillance audit and scope extension in late 2024, Capral completed a comprehensive recertification audit between 20 April and 19 May 2026.
The renewed certifications are valid from 2 June 2026 to 1 June 2029 and cover the extrusion, warehousing and distribution of aluminium products and services across Capral’s national operations.
The ASI Performance Standard is a comprehensive environmental, social and governance standard developed specifically for the aluminium value chain. It assesses organisations across areas including business integrity, responsible sourcing, environmental management, greenhouse gas emissions, water stewardship, biodiversity, human rights, workplace health and safety, and community engagement.
Capral’s audit recorded an overall high maturity rating, with high ratings across both governance and environmental performance. The audit confirmed that Capral has established effective policies, systems and processes to manage its ESG responsibilities across a complex national manufacturing and distribution network.
The ASI Chain of Custody Standard complements the Performance Standard by establishing requirements for the controlled flow of responsibly sourced aluminium through the supply chain. Capral’s certification provides customers with confidence that appropriate systems are in place to receive, account for and supply eligible ASI Chain of Custody material using a documented mass balance system.
Capral Group ESG and Risk Manager Marc Banks said the recertification process involved a detailed and rigorous examination of the company’s systems, policies, records and operational practices.
“ASI certification is not a desktop exercise or a simple review of policies. The audit is extensive and evidence-based, requiring us to demonstrate how our commitments are understood, implemented and monitored across the business. It is a demanding standard, and that rigour is precisely what gives the certification its value.”
The independent audit considered verified objective evidence across Capral’s certification scope and assessed the company’s performance against the applicable requirements of both standards. It also included a multi-site sampling process across Capral’s Australian operations.
For Capral, recertification is not simply about retaining a credential. It provides an external framework against which the company can measure its ESG performance, identify opportunities for improvement and remain accountable for its commitments.
“ASI is an important part of Capral’s broader ESG framework because it turns commitment into something measurable,” Banks said. “It requires transparency, clear accountability and ongoing improvement. It also challenges us to look beyond our own operations and consider how the aluminium we source, manufacture and distribute contributes to a more responsible value chain.”
The audit confirmed conformance across a broad range of criteria, including legal compliance, anti-corruption, responsible sourcing, environmental and social management systems, greenhouse gas emissions, waste management, human rights, occupational health and safety, and Chain of Custody material accounting.
Capral has also recently published Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its LocAl® lower-carbon aluminium range. The independently verified EPDs provide transparent environmental performance data across the product’s cradle-to-gate lifecycle. Together with Capral’s ASI certifications, they give customers credible information to support responsible procurement, embodied carbon reporting and more informed material choices.
By maintaining certification against both the ASI Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard, Capral is demonstrating that responsible aluminium sourcing and production are supported by systems, evidence and independent scrutiny.
